Fossil Amber in Riker Box — Hell Creek Formation, North Dakota (66 MYA)

Hold a piece of an ancient forest. This genuine Hell Creek fossil amber was collected in North Dakota and dates to the very end of the Age of Dinosaurs, about 66 million years ago. It comes in a labeled Riker display box with a protective round capsule, ready for a shelf, desk or classroom.

Natural fossil, one of a kind. Amber is fossilized tree resin, so small differences in shape and shade are normal from piece to piece. Pieces are small, about ½ inch, and the photos show an example.

The resin that became this amber flowed from trees in the same forests where Tyrannosaurus rex, Triceratops and Edmontosaurus lived. Small as it is, amber is a rare, direct link to the plants and environment of the Late Cretaceous.
